Who we are

A family-run nursery that feels like home

At Lancaster Lodge we welcomed our first young explorers in February 2013, born from Claire’s desire to build something different for young children and families just like you.

Claire’s path as a qualified Early Years practitioner from apprentice to deputy manager had given her firsthand experience of what works brilliantly for children – and also what to avoid. Claire’s vision was to create an Early Years setting with room to breathe. A place where children could flow freely between calm indoor spaces and wildly inviting gardens, where natural materials replaced plastic clutter and the pace of the day followed children’s natural rhythm and changing needs.

The inviting rooms and gardens that make up our setting were originally a family home, and we’ve kept that warm, familiar atmosphere where children feel settled and secure. Soft furnishings and carefully chosen wooden furniture create a genuinely cosy feel.

Your child will join a team of caring staff and new friends as one big extended family. From the highly qualified Early Years Educators that lead our teams, to the enthusiastic nursery assistants just beginning their journey, we all share a joy in providing exceptional care for your inspiring young people every day.

ETHOS & APPROACH

We follow children’s natural curiosity

Small people learn best when they’re free to form their own winding path. We plan in-the-moment with a child-led approach as we watch what your child is drawn to and extend those sparks of interest into exciting learning experiences.

Lancaster Lodge feels different from the moment you step inside. We’re inspired by The Curiosity Approach, a UK movement that encourages children to explore, investigate and follow their curiosity.

We've filled our rooms with interesting loose parts, real objects and natural treasures that spark imagination. Neutral tones and organic materials create a calm atmosphere, while large windows flood your child’s day with sunlight.

With these authentic materials, open-ended resources and beautifully curated spaces, children engage more deeply and build confidence and independence at their own pace.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

The best classroom is roofed only by the sky

- QUOTE: MARGARET MCMILLAN -

There’s no waiting for ‘outdoor time’ here. Each of our three rooms connects directly to extensive garden spaces, so if your little person wants to dig in the soil or watch the clouds drift by, there will be endless opportunity.

It’s not just about fresh air (which we do think is important, too). Outdoor learning develops your child's resilience, creativity and confidence. They take risks, test their abilities and connect with nature – building enough self-belief to last them a lifetime.

Our quiet setting surrounded by fields creates the perfect backdrop for adventure… don't be surprised if your child comes home with muddy knees and an enormous smile.
